Titanic Quarter 'to expand'

The Titanic Quarter area of Belfast is to benefit after a number of projects were granted planning permission, which will be worth a total of £500 million.

Environment minister Edwin Poots announced the scheme and he noted that the first phase is providing much-needed construction jobs for the city, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

"It has taken the vision of the developers and the co-ordination and support of planners to realise the potential for the people of Belfast and for Northern Ireland," he added.

Mike Smith, chief executive of the Titanic Quarter, told the paper that the Titanic Signature Project and the new Public Records Office for Northern Ireland are just two of the schemes to have received backing.

The news provider remarked that an application has also been made for a 90-room boutique hotel.

It was recently revealed that a shopping centre in the capital is to be redeveloped, a move that will create 300 permanent jobs for the region.
