Dr Who coming to Belfast

Fans of Doctor Who on holiday in Belfast towards the end of March will be able to meet their hero as part of a UK tour being undertaken by the new Time Lord.

The role is being played by Matt Smith - the youngest actor to be afforded the privilege - and science fiction aficionados will be introduced to him on March 29th in the city.

Hard-to-access areas are being targeted by this BBC Outreach programme and, aside from Belfast, also include are Sunderland, Inverness, Northampton and Salford.

A regional premiere of the first episode is to be put on and executive producer and head of drama at BBC Wales Piers Wenger remarked: "This is a great opportunity for the new doctor and his companion to interface directly with the people who matter most to Doctor Who: the fans."

This is not the last time that glitz and glamour will come to Belfast. US cable network HBO is to be filming The Game of Thrones - starring Sean Bean - in the city, the Irish Times recently reported.
