New TV show to be filmed in Belfast

A major new television show is being filmed in Belfast by American cable network HBO.

The Game of Thrones had a pilot filmed in the city last year and it has been confirmed that another nine episodes of the sereis are to be made, which could bring as much as £20 million to the capital, the Irish Times reports.

It is based on hit fantasy novels by American author George R R Martin and it will star Lord of the Rings actor Sean Bean.

The news provider noted that it will be filmed in the Harland & Wolff shipyard in east Belfast, a site that has already been used by Hollywood for the blockbuster City of Ember.

It comes after the film Killing bono was recently shot on location in Belfast city centre. The picture is set in the 1970s and chronicles the early life of the singer and his band, U2.
