Belfast shopping centre to be redeveloped

A shopping centre in Belfast is to be redeveloped in a move that will create 300 permanent jobs for the area, it has been revealed.

The Dairy Farm Centre, located on the Stewartstown Road in west Belfast, will also bring in 200 construction jobs for the duration of the project.

Once completed, the new retail outlet will offer a food superstore, a petrol station, offices and retail units.

Planning minister Edwin Poots noted that the centre will provide a number of employment opportunities.

He added that it will also "[provide] quality premises close to main transport routes, a further positive outcome in support of the Northern Ireland economy".

And MP for the area Gerry Adams said the announcement had come at a good time for the local community.

The news comes nearly two years after another shopping centre, Victoria Square, was opened in the city centre at the cost of £400 million.
