Filming of Killing Bono begins in Belfast

The streets of Belfast are being turned back in time as filming for a new movie about U2's formative years in Dublin and London is taking place, it has emerged.

Killing Bono is set in the late 1970s and portrays the story of two rival bands fighting it out to achieve stardom.

The film is based on a book written by Neil McCormick entitled 'I was Bono's Doppleganger' and it contrasts his own experiences with trying to make it in the music industry with those of his school friend, U2's Bono.

Producer Mark Huffman chose Belfast to film because he feels the city is more suited to recreating periods of history and he is confident the movie will be a success.

He told the Belfast Telegraph: "We've got a brilliant cast and director, so we're confident the finished product will be really good."

The book on which the film is based on was described by Elton John as the best account about trying to make it in the music business he had ever read.
