Belfast included on World Cup trophy tour

Belfast has been included on the list of places that the World Cup trophy will be visiting as part of its nine-month tour of the globe prior to the start of the 2010 Fifa World Cup Finals that will be held in South Africa.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the prize will reach the city on Saturday, April 3rd, just one stop along the journey to 86 countries.

Fans will be able to have their picture taken with the trophy as a souvenir and watch a 3D film of the most memorable moments of the Fifa World Cup.

The theme of this leg of the tour will be a retrospective look at two finals of the competition - the 1982 and 1986 events, in which Northern Ireland performed well.

Fifa president Joseph Blatter, at the ceremony to mark the start of the expedition, remarked: "Through this event we are really engaging football fans on a global scale."ADNFCR-1390-ID-19516132-ADNFCR
