Belfast on list of best places for New Year's Eve

The city of Belfast has ranked inside the top 20 of the most popular places for Brits to spend their New Year's Eve celebrations.

Compiled by travel search site Skyscanner, the Northern Irish district was placed at number 16 on the list, beating out competition from the likes of Faro in Portugal, Rome, Madrid and Glasgow.

However, it was beaten to the top spot by the Big Apple - New York - the only city outside the continent to make it on to the register, suggesting that the staycation fever that gripped the nation earlier in the year is still holding sway over the purse strings a little.

The second-most favoured place to count down to midnight was Tenerife, which, the website observed, is a "long-time favourite for Brits seeking escape from the UK's winter gloom".

Those on holiday in Belfast to see in the new year may like to head to Club Mono for the Reunion New Year's Eve Party. Local DJs on the night may include Jay Kay, Chris Cargo, Ryan Doherty and Eamon Beagon, Skiddle reports.ADNFCR-1390-ID-19506438-ADNFCR
