New Belfast sculpture unveiled

A new four-metre high sculpture has been unveiled in Belfast's Stranmillis, framing the view to the Annandale embankment through arch frames made of stainless steel.

Artist Denis O'Connor from Derbyshire was selected to be the creator of the new piece of artwork and three primary schools in the area were chosen to help prepare the project in a series of workshops.

What's more, students from Stranmillis College, alongside local residents and two historians - Dr Julian Greenwood and Dr Eamon Phoenix - were included in its creation.

Lord mayor of Belfast councillor Naomi Long remarked that the work truly encapsulates "the essence of Stranmillis", incorporating "theatrical connections" and "impressive architecture", as well as the river flow itself and oars recalling boats that are often seen.

Those on holiday in Belfast may also like to visit the Botanic Garden as a new mural has been painted by Chinese and cross-community artists. It was produced to coincide with the Chinese Moon Festival.ADNFCR-1390-ID-19482927-ADNFCR
