Belfast's lord mayor joins Twitter

The lord mayor of Belfast, councillor Naomi Long, has joined the multitude of prominent personalities - which include Britney Spears and Stephen Fry - as a tweeter on the microblogging service Twitter.

Observing that it is essential to keep up with communication trends, Councillor Long commented: "When I became lord mayor earlier this year, I pledged to work towards a 'Belfast without barriers'".

She added that, through trying to reach as wide an audience as she can, a number of followers have encouraged her to tell all about what being lord mayor is like.

Aside from regular tweeting, Councillor Long is also penning a weekly blog on the Belfast City Council website so as to update residents and visitors on what she has been doing.

Earlier this month, it emerged that Belfast City Airport is to receive a £6 million refurbishment in order to keep up with consumer demand, with a 60 per cent increase in shopping opportunities.ADNFCR-1390-ID-19386445-ADNFCR
