The Botanic Garden in Belfast is getting a fresh look thanks to a Shared Space project taking place at the beginning of October, which will see both Chinese and cross-community artists as well as volunteers contribute to a new mural.Designed to celebrate the Chinese community in the city, the painting of the mural is also open to members of the public, to coincide with the Chinese Moon Festival.
Lord mayor councillor Naomi Long remarked that the frieze will incorporate both Irish and Chinese symbols in order to reflect how the two traditions have grown alongside each other in the city.
"The project has been developed through a partnership of organisations that are encouraging the use of parks as Shared Space and I look forward to seeing Belfast grow as a city in which we celebrate cultural diversity," she said.
Further artwork around the city can be seen in north Belfast, opposite Ballysillan Primary School, in the form of an eight-foot-tall pyramid sculpture.
