SS Nomadic moving to new home

The SS Nomadic, the last White Star Line ship in existence - and one of the vessels to carry passengers out to board the Titanic - is being moved to a new dock.

In 2006, the ship was returned to Belfast, where she was built at Harland and Wolff in 1911. It has since been undergoing intensive restoration as part of the Nomadic Charitable Trust campaign.

The historic boat will be moved to Hamilton Dock on Queen's Road during August, with an aim to have her functioning as a floating museum and exhibition space by 2011.

Denis Rooney, chairman of the trust, was quoted by the Belfast Telegraph as saying: "Nomadic's arrival in to Hamilton Dock marks the next significant milestone in this project and it's a fantastic achievement to successfully reach this point."

The ship will be open to the public from August 10th to 23rd to coincide with the last leg of the Tall Ships Atlantic Challenge which will see 12 ships race into Belfast Harbour from the 13th to the 16th.ADNFCR-1390-ID-19295694-ADNFCR
