Belfast hotel gets 4 star recognition after upgrade

A hotel in Belfast has been awarded an additional star after a £5 million refurbishment project.

The Park Avenue Hotel in the eastern part of the city is now a four-star accommodation, a recognition awarded following an inspection by the Northern Ireland Tourism Board.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the 56-bedroom hotel undertook the renovation project in order to revamp its rooms, bar, conference centre and restaurant.

Mandy Martin, the owner of the hotel, told the newspaper: "The Park Avenue Hotel is in a unique position in that it is a family business with very strong local ties and a proven track record of commitment to the community.

"But the business is also central to the bigger tourism picture providing east Belfast with a quality boutique-style hotel which attracts an enviable occupancy level … We take a very long term view and this has always been the case."

The hotel was established in 1963 by Harry Stephens, Ms Martin's grandfather.
