Commonwealth boxing champ to fight in Belfast

One of boxing's hottest properties is set to fight in Belfast in his next appearance in the ring.

Martin Rogan caused a huge shock by beating European heavyweight champion Matt Skelton in Birmingham at the weekend.

Now the Commonwealth heavyweight champ will fight in his hometown in Northern Ireland.

Frank Warren, his promoter, stated after his victory on Saturday night: "We are going to lobby for a shot at the European title because it should have been on the line and he should be the champion already.

"But Marty will fight in Belfast next, that is what we are doing."

Rogan added: "I have always believed I can do it and I have always wanted to do it."

It is anticipated that Kings Hall will be the venue to hold his next big-time boxing match up.

Another of the country's rising sports stars, Rory McIlroy, has been tipped for the top by Ernie Els. He forecast that the golfing youngster could be the next world number one. ADNFCR-1390-ID-19052117-ADNFCR
