Figures for the Heathrow to Belfast International airport route have exceeded expectations and left Aer Lingus "delighted" with its results.In its first 12 months of operation, the route carried more than 250,000 passengers, figures have revealed.
There has also been a boost to sales since the new year began and many people look to take advantage of January sales.
Enda Corneille, corporate affairs director at Aer Lingus, said that the route was a "continuing success story".
"In our first year of operations we took more than 750,000 bookings, that was 50 per cent ahead of our target and we are well on our way to our millionth booking. Watch this space," she added.
"Today we are delighted to celebrate a quarter of a million passengers on Heathrow alone. The service is a resounding success."
The 250,000th passengers on the route, Katie Crooks and Kellie Payne, were given two free flights on the Belfast route to any destinations.
