Nature haven unveiled in Belfast

A new haven for people flying into Belfast who want to escape back to nature has been unveiled.

The Comber Greenway is a seven-mile long area that is free of traffic and set to attract walkers and cyclists to enjoy the scenery and tranquillity.

More than 1,000 trees have been planted along the stretch between Comber and east Belfast by sustainable transport charity Sustrans and special conservation work has been done.

Sustrans director for Northern Ireland, Steven Patterson, stated: "The Comber Greenway is already phenomenally popular with local people and the completion of the final stretch through the countryside to Comber adds to the feeling of rural escape from urban bustle.

"We plan to continue our work with communities to increase usage and make the greenway even more useful by building links to facilities such as schools, shops and workplaces."

Following yesterday's unveiling, an official opening ceremony will take place tomorrow.

Another Sustrans scheme is the National Cycle Network, which now covers around 12,000 miles and is located within one mile of more than half of the total population in the UK.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18864751-ADNFCR
