Rock band and politician fly to Belfast together

One of Northern Ireland's most prominent politicians and one of the planet's biggest rock bands were introduced yesterday on a flight to Belfast.

Martin McGuinness began a conversation with Oasis while both he and the Gallagher brothers were on their way to George Best Belfast City Airport.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, Mr McGuiness admitted he was a fan of the group and named Wonderwall as his favourite song, while Noel and Liam Gallagher were keen to discuss politics.

An official from Mr McGuiness' camp told the newspaper: "Martin has met the Gallagher brothers before at Heathrow Airport and, yes, he was talking to them again yesterday.

"They seemed genuinely interested in what is going on here and seemed to be pretty knowledgeable about the situation as well."

The band has been thrilling audiences in Belfast with sell-out concerts to promote their new album Dig Out Your Soul.
