Passenger boost for Belfast City Airport

Belfast George Best City Airport is set to cater for an extra half a million passengers a year after planning restrictions were altered.

The annual 'seat for sale' airport limit has been increased from 1.5 million to two million by the British government, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

However, the changed Planning Agreement has made other alterations, which include setting a cap on the number of flights, allowing 48,000 a year.

Efforts to make the airport quieter have also been planned, with noise monitoring equipment and high-tech tracking technology set to be installed.

Meanwhile, Ryanair has released figures showing traffic at Belfast George Best City Airport increased by 28 per cent from January to July this year, making it the UK's fastest-growing airport.

Michael O'Leary from the airline said: "We hope this will allow Ryanair to expand further at Belfast City by adding a range of guaranteed lowest fare flights to European destinations."
