More than £7 million is set to be invested into areas of Belfast most in need of redevelopment, a government minister has revealed.A number of schemes will be funded by the investment, which was announced by Margaret Ritchie, the social development minister.
In all, 15 groups will benefit from the money, including Glenbank Community Centre and Lower Falls New Start Project.
The Neighbourhood Renewal projects are expected to have £30 million spent on them in the next three years and could see more people tempted to visit the improved areas of Belfast.
Ms Ritchie commented: "I have taken a close interest in funding for Neighbourhood Renewal projects because I want to be assured that resources are directed at those in greatest need.
"Over the coming weeks, my department will be issuing further contracts to providers of important services in disadvantaged communities."
Earlier this year, a US and Northern Ireland Investment Conference took place in the Irish capital, with firms such as Citigroup already investing heavily in the city.
