Belfast airport operation 'a role model'

Aer Lingus has revealed that its Belfast base is running extremely smoothly and could act as a template' for other bases.

Having reviewed operations and costs, the airline's Belfast location was deemed to be a great base, with the firm keen to reproduce its success in other areas.

The charm of Belfast as a tourist attraction was also noted by the company's corporate affairs director Enda Corneille, who stated he is "very pleased".

"Belfast will be seen as a model in terms of productivity and set-up. If anything, we would want to replicate the operation we have here," he said.

"We are also pleased to see strong inward traffic on routes from places such as Amsterdam, Paris and Barcelona, all evidence of Northern Ireland's increasing attractiveness as a visitor destination."

The airline has announced it is to begin new routes from Belfast this autumn, with Lanzarote, Munich and Milan services all scheduled to begin in the near future. ADNFCR-1390-ID-18779371-ADNFCR
