From a galaxy far, far away to Belfast

A university in Belfast is set to run a course that will be based around the teachings of classic sci-fi series Star Wars.

The course will begin at Queen's University in November, with Star Wars enthusiasts expected to flock to Belfast to sign up for it.

Named Feel the Force: How to Train in the Jedi Way, the course will concentrate on teaching the "real-life psychological techniques behind Jedi mind tricks".

So, although no battles with Darth Vader are scheduled – the course explains that light sabres are not provided – issues such as "balance, destiny, dualism, fatherhood and fascism" will be explored.

Dr Allen Baird, the course leader, revealed that he expects a younger generation to be tempted into open learning by the course.

"It is not just about the Star Wars films. It is also about the sociological and political issues that are addressed in the films," he said.

"It doesn't mean that one has to believe that the stories are true, but they can be used as a teaching aid."

The course will run in one day sessions and cost £23 per person.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18777135-ADNFCR
