Prime Minister Brown for Belfast visit

Gordon Brown, the prime minister, is set to fly in to Belfast next week for talks with government officials.

During the planned stopover, Mr Brown will meet with Northern Ireland's top ministers for talks on a number of issues.

UTV Political Editor Ken Reid commented: "The Prime Minister will probably visit Northern Ireland next week as part of a tour of the UK, the week before the Labour Party Conference. He will also visit Scotland and Wales."

There may also be time for the prime minister to take a look around the many attractions Belfast has to offer, but it appears he may be flying to Belfast primarily for business purposes.

The trip is part of a wider UK tour, but Mr Brown is timing his visit to coincide with the Belfast Food and Drink Festival, which is continuing throughout September.

A cocktails and canapés night will precede Mr Brown's visit at Number 27 on September 15th, while a Wine and Cheese evening at Deane's Deli Vin Café is set to take place on September 17th.
