Belfast City Airport to be sold

Belfast City Airport is set for a change of ownership after its owner Ferrovial of Spain agreed to sell it to an ABN Amro fund.

The deal will be worth £132.5 million and is expected to be paid for by ABN Amro's Global Infrastructure fund, the Financial Times reports.

Following the deal, the airport is expected to focus more on UK airports operator BAA, but it will still serve a number of different routes for passengers travelling to and from Belfast.

Ferrovial has owned Belfast City Airport for five years, having bought it from Canadian aerospace firm Bombardier for £43 million in 2003.

The Spanish company has sold a number of its assets recently, with Budapest airport, its duty-free retail business and Sydney airport all being relinquished since the beginning of the year.

A number of new initiatives and alterations to attract more visitors to fly in and out of Belfast could be in the pipeline for the airport when its new owners take control.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18768627-ADNFCR
