The Ryder Cup could be set to boost interest in visiting Northern Ireland's numerous golfing hotspots, with an Irish player ready to represent Europe in the match against the US.This year's contest will take place in the US at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky. However, the surge in golf's popularity the tournament provides, plus the spectacular golf courses available in Belfast could see many people flying to Belfast to emulate the likes of Graeme McDowell.
McDowell is the sole member of Europe's side from Northern Ireland after Darren Clarke failed to make the side, but the likes of Major-winning star Padraig Harrington and flamboyant Englishman Ian Poulter are also expected to be popular with fans.
Europe has won the contest on five of the last six times it has been held, including the last three, making them strong favourites to land the Cup again when it starts on September 16th.
Fortwilliam, Balmoral and Malone are among the most popular golf courses in Belfast, while experts have claimed that Portstewart strand course could be home to the best opening hole in world golf.
