Big cat enthusiasts could be heading to Belfast this week to join the hunt for a lion that is rumoured to be on the loose in the Irish capital.Several members of the public have reported seeing a lion in the Cavehill area of Belfast, which led to a police search of the area last night.
Police officers and a helicopter were utilised, but the search was called off late last night as visibility decreased and no sightings of the animal were confirmed.
However, the search may resume today, with a police spokesman confirming a "sandy-coloured lion or large non-domestic cat" had been reported as being in the Upper Hightown end of Cavehill Park.
"Police are working to locate and establish the exact nature of the animal as well as establish where any such animal may have come from," he said.
"Anyone who thinks they may have seen the animal should not attempt to approach it."
