Passenger and aircraft movement limits imposed at George Best Belfast City Airport are to be relaxed, it has been reported.The Belfast Telegraph understands that a new draft planning agreement is under consideration.
The newspaper's belief is that the new plans include raising the cap on seats on sale per year from three million to four and also increasing aircraft movements from 45,000 per year to 48,000.
The proposals, made by the Department of the Environment, are expected to be finalised and made public in the near future.
Neither the airport nor the government made any comment.
The airport's night-time curfew, prohibiting scheduled arrivals or departures between 9.30pm and 6.30am, is not to be lifted.
Security measures in place at the airport mean that the front of the site is now a drop-off only zone.
Passengers are advised to check bag limitations with their individual airlines.
They may carry only one bag of liquids, which must be transparent, resealable and no bigger than one litre in capacity.
