Bumper bank holiday weekend for airports

Belfast is expecting a huge amount of people to pass through its airports this bank holiday weekend, with many expected to take city breaks in the Irish capital.

Others will be flying from Belfast to other destinations, with the Association of British Travel Agents (Abta) predicting that some two million Britons will be jetting off this weekend.

Passengers are being urged to get to airports early as they are likely to be extremely busy, with Friday August 22nd and Saturday August 23rd set to be the busiest days for airlines over the weekend.

Abta president Justin Fleming believes that the weekend represents a chance for Britain to end the summer in style with a short break, with Belfast one of the most popular destinations for holidaymakers.

"The August bank holiday is our traditional goodbye to the summer and is always very busy," he said.

"This year is no exception with large numbers escaping to guaranteed sunshine, sandy beaches and warm seas."
