EasyJet introduces more efficient flight planning

Budget airline easyJet is set to optimise its flight routings and reduce fuel consumption by using Lido Operations Centre from Lufthansa Systems to plan all its flight routes.

The new international planning application will take into account traffic flow restrictions, weather conditions and flight times while saving dispatchers time by automatically checking route regulations.

Cor Vrieswijk, easyJet's operations director, commented: "The recent surges in oil prices are having a dramatic effect on European aviation and as a result easyJet are taking a range of measures to reduce our costs and improve fuel efficiency.

"It will help us optimise the routes operated by our modern, economical fleet and create an efficient, dynamic flight planning processes."

Also, this will hopefully mean a more efficient turnaround for passengers flying from destinations across Europe to Belfast, speeding up travel times across the easyJet network.

The move forms part of the airline's efficiency program, which follows the recent unveiling of new reduced CO2-emitting engines.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18666000-ADNFCR
