Film fans spark new travel trend

Film tourism has become increasingly popular in recent years, with many more people wanting to visit destinations where their favourite films were based.

The industry has seen a developing trend in tourists travelling to untraditional holiday spots and cities around the world to see for themselves the locations, landmarks and scenery captured on the big screen.

Derek Moore, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said: "There is a growing trend for people looking to travel to a destination for a particular reason, such as for adventure and activity holidays, and a place's association with a film is also triggering such visits.

"Britons are also more prepared to travel beyond their comfort zone today and see parts of the world which are not well known to tourists."

Cities such as Belfast, which were previously not considered as popular tourist attractions, have seen a significant surge in visitors from all corners of the globe, wanting to visit cultural sites and famous areas depicted in films rather than postcards.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18660083-ADNFCR
