City Airport unveils plans for silver anniversary

Local primary school pupils will be Flying High in a competition launched by George Best City Airport.

To mark the airport's 25th anniversary, Belfast primary schools have been invited to enter paintings or drawings of scenes depicting airport life.

Michelle Hatfield, human resources and corporate responsibility manager at Belfast City Airport, said: "The schools competition ties in with our appeal to the local community for their assistance in the compilation of a book about the airport."

The winner's entry will be included in the airport's 25th anniversary book due to be published later in the year and the pupil will receive art materials and a guided tour of the airport for the class.

Passengers flying in and out of the Northern Ireland hub will be able to admire the children's efforts displayed within the airport concourse during the silver anniversary celebrations.

Ms Hatfield added: "We're currently asking anyone with interesting stories, memories or photographs of the airport over the last 25 years to contact us."

Belfast City Airport is the major base for airline Flybe, which began operating from the airport in 1993.

Last year, the airport handled almost 2.2 million passengers.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18657577-ADNFCR
