easyjet aircraft to go greener

New environmentally-efficient engines are set to be introduced to easyJet's fleet of Airbus A319 aircraft, reducing NOx emissions by a quarter.

The new CFM56-5B Tech Insertion engines, produced by CFM International, are expected to mark significant progress in easyJet's ambition to be recognised as one of the world's most environmentally-aware airlines.

Once added to the fleet, the engines will reduce CO2 emissions, fuel consumption and maintenance costs. The engine's one per cent improvement in fuel consumption will lower CO2, reducing emissions by 200 tons per aircraft per year.

Eric Bachelet, president and chief executive of CFM International, said: "This airline's 'Green CFM56' represents the best of available and mature technologies for the environment and will enable easyJet to meet future international emissions regulations with significant margins.

"We are proud to play a part in helping easyJet solidify its position as an industry leader in environmental consciousness."

Lower fuel consumption is also good news in terms of cost as oil prices continue to rise.ADNFCR-1390-ID-18653235-ADNFCR
