Belfast emerges as Hollywood's newest star

As more and more foreigners discover the old charms and newly found peace of Northern Ireland, film-makers and stars are also getting in on the action, according to the Economist.

It would appear that Hollywood has fallen in love with the north of the island, with numerous directors choosing Belfast as a location for new movies.

The economist reported that Harland & Wolff's paint hall - the shipyard where the Titanic was built - can host several productions at once and is only five minutes from Belfast city centre, making it popular studio space among some of the industry's biggest names.

Last year, iconic actor Bill Murray and co-star Tim Robbins hit Belfast's shores to film new movie City of Ember, due for release in October.

The production team spent 14 weeks shooting in and around Belfast, which claimed its starring role against competition from the cities of Prague and Berlin for the movie's location. ADNFCR-1390-ID-18627704-ADNFCR
