Belfast makes Deloitte top 20 for hotel performance

Belfast made its debut in the 2007 Deloitte Global Ranking Index, making it into the top 20 places for global hotel performance.

Securing 15th position, Belfast joined top European destinations such as Venice as a prime tourist hot spot, in terms of hotel occupancy.

Northern Ireland's capital city is currently enjoying a renaissance as a safe tourist destination, attracting visitors from all over the world, after decades of political unrest.

The Deloitte index reflects the emergence of Belfast as a prime destination for weekend breaks and business travel.

Meanwhile Dublin fell to 37th place from 18th position last year.

Mary Gara, director of consumer business group at Deloitte, stated: "The emphasis now must be on providing quality service and marketing Ireland as a top class tourist destination that is able to compete with these other destinations."

The results confirm that Northern Ireland is fast becoming a competitive tourist destination on both a European and global scale, indicating the positive impact the city's regeneration has had on the industry. ADNFCR-1390-ID-18600196-ADNFCR
