Belfast zoo offers fun for all the family

For a fantastically fun day out in Belfast, there is little that can beat the city's zoo.

Holidaymakers bringing their children to the Northern Ireland capital for a break can join the more than 295,000 visitors that the zoological park attracts each year, and see a white tiger, Barbary lions, elephants, giraffes, bongos, gorillas, and many more wonderful animals.

Feeding times run throughout the day so there is ample opportunity to see the animals at their most animated.

At 11.15am the red river hogs are fed, followed at 11.30 by the chimpanzees and sun bears, and the gorillas are fed at 12pm and 2pm.

One of the zoo's biggest attractions is Lily the lion, a Barbary lion cub who was born last year and has been hand-reared by zookeeper Linda Frew.

She lives with a Japanese Akita dog called Keepa, and eats eight quail and half a cow's heart each day.

The zoo is located on Antrim Road.
