Airlines and tourism body team up for Belfast promotion

Tourism Ireland is looking to team up with airlines flying to Belfast in order to attract visitors from the US and Europe, the Press Association reports.

Nigel Dodds of the Democratic Unionist Party announced that the tourism body was working with Aer Lingus, easyJet and Continental Airlines in order to develop advertising campaigns promoting Northern Ireland as a place to go on holiday.

He said: "Tourism Ireland is planning a number of campaigns to promote Northern Ireland in North America and Europe which focus on direct access gateways."

In one Tourism Ireland initiative, some of the country's top chefs will showcase Irish cooking in the US. Chefs from the prestigious Merchant and Culloden hotels in Belfast will join in a week-long promotion in Boston, while Rachel Allen will be in New York and will appear on NBC's Today Show.

easyJet flies to Belfast International Airport from destinations including Amsterdam, London Gatwick and Paris. Aer Lingus flies from London Heathrow, Barcelona and other airports.
