Belfast City Airport to gain new retail facilities

Passengers flying through Belfast City Airport could soon be enjoying a Starbucks coffee, thanks to a new catering contract.

According to a report in the MF daily seen by Thomson Financial, foodservice operator Autogrill SpA has won a £30 million contract to provide catering facilities at George Best Belfast City Airport.

The company apparently plans to install a Starbucks cafe in the sales area, which will be useful for those flying in from places such as London City Airport, Manchester and East Midlands.

As well as this, Autogrill plans to begin sales of regional brands like Bushmills whiskey, giving visitors to Northern Ireland the opportunity to pick up some authentic souvenirs on the way home.

These facilities are scheduled to open this year.

Belfast City Airport was renamed in honour of local footballing hero George Best in 2006. It is served by airlines including ScotAirways, Flybe and Ryanair.
