Belfast International grows rapidly

Belfast International Airport is growing rapidly, as more locals take flights abroad and more tourists take inbound flights.

In fact, airport chief executive John Doran has revealed that the hub is heading towards a total figure of six million passengers this year, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

Aer Lingus, which has just begun flights between Belfast International and London Heathrow, is likely to handle 500,000 passengers, and other airlines are expanding their presence at the Northern Irish hub as well.

"The launch of the Aer Lingus service to London Heathrow is a very welcome addition to the offering at Belfast International," said Mr Doran.

In the past five years, the number of direct international services offered from the airport has increased from one (Amsterdam) to 36.

Upcoming new routes include Rome, Budapest and Faro from Aer Lingus.
