Bars in Belfast

The Northern Ireland capital is renowned for being good craic, and its plethora of top-notch drinking establishment will keep even the hardiest fun-loving holidaymaker happy.

First up there is The Botanic Inn, which has three different bars, and is recognised as the city's premier live entertainment and sports bar. Prize winning pub quizzes, restaurant style food and DJ sets, the Botanic is many things rolled into one and guaranteed to be a good night out.

Next is The Potthouse, in the city's trendy Cathedral Quarter Area, which has established itself as one of the city's freshest and most popular licensed venues. Located on the site of Belfast's first Pottery, this establishment offers a bar and grill, the Sugar Room nightclub (open Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and offering RnB, house and classic disco), and the Soap Bar private function room (featuring a premium drinks selection).

The Northern Whig is a new addition on the Belfast bar scene and is located in the former offices of the Northern Whig newspaper. The huge hall features massive beer barrels and Communist statues for decoration. A user comment on WorldsBestBars reads: "The vibe at the weekend is great; no more of your snobbish up-yourself types, just a good mix of regular people looking to have a good night, the food is awesome and I have never had a bad meal there yet." No website as yet. Located on Bridge Street.

Meanwhile, the stylish bar at The Malmaison Hotel on Victoria Street "invites you to chase the day away with a choice of astoundingly good wines or an adventurous cocktail. We serve all of them with our complimentary joie de vivre, so sit back, relax and soak in our unique Malmaison ambience". The Malmaison brasserie features locally-sourced food, including the tasty wild boar sausages.

So - a wide choice of drinkeries awaits the weary traveller after he or she has spent the day seeing the city's many wonderful sites.
